Golden Corral Airport Express Opens At Raleigh-durham International

RALEIGH (Monday, January 01, 2001) - Golden Corral Airport Express, with many of the favorite offerings from the buffet and grill restaurant chain, has opened in the remodeled Terminal A at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

"This is an exciting adaptation of the Golden Corral concept tailored to the needs of airline passengers who have only a limited amount of time to eat, but want a fresh, nourishing and value-priced meal," said Bob McDevitt, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Golden Corral Corporation. "We are delighted to have been approved by the Airport Authority and given this unique opportunity for brand exposure."

The prototype carryout restaurant is operated by Anton Airfood, Inc. of Washington, D.C., Larry Tate, Senior Vice President of Franchising, announced.

"We are delighted to have Anton Airfood as a member of our franchise community," Mr. Tate said. "They have 75 restaurants of various types at 12 airport terminals and are expert operators. This is the first non-traditional Golden Corral location and providea us with valuable experience that can be transferred to other similar situations."

The co-franchisee and general manager of the Golden Corral Airport Express is Sheldon Poole of Laurinburg, N.C., who previously served in management positions in Golden Corrals in Raleigh and Fayetteville. He joined Golden Corral in April, 2000, after 16 years experience in the contract food industry.

"Teaming Sheldon Poole, who has a strong restaurant background and firsthand management experience in the Golden Corral system, with one of the nation's best airport facility managers gives us a terrific combination," Mr. Tate noted.

Mr. Poole has great confidence in the Airport Express concept. "We expect to meet or beat the sales forecast in our business plan," he said. "Traffic in Terminal A has recovered, passengers arrive at their gates an hour or more prior to departure and they know that the airlines won't feed them. They're looking for tasty food and fast service and we've got the answer."
