Astrodome Golden Corral Has Blockbuster Opening, First Week Sales Of $94,586

HOUSTON (Thursday, September 20, 2001) - This city's newest Golden Corral, located adjacent to the Astrodome on South Loop West, had a blockbuster opening on September 13 and first week sales of $94,586.

"Golden Corral Corporation tells us that our first week sales were right there with the highest ever in the system for a restaurant that seats less than 400 guests," said Don Morris, operating partner for the investor group that holds the franchise.

"My managers and co-workers really believe in making all guests feel welcome and they are dedicated to seeing that every guest need is attended to," Mr. Morris added. "Texans know Golden Corral and its reputation for value and we felt we'd do well if we took good care of our guests."

Golden Corporation expects the new restaurant to continue its successful ways.

"Don Morris and his partners, Thomas Jones, Jr. and Brian Smith, are experienced executives and they have launched their Golden Corral in a very professional manner," Larry Tate, Senior Vice President of Franchising, said. "The launch phase or honeymoon period of this restaurant is going extremely well and we believe it has the potential to level off at an annual sales rate substantially above $3 million."

The Astrodome unit brings to ten the number of Golden Corrals in the Houston metropolitan area and increases the count in Texas to 91. There are currently 472 restaurants in the Golden Corral system, 350 franchised and 122 company-operated.

Systemwide sales in 2001 were $1.03 billion, the tenth consecutive record year. Sales in 2002 are projected to reach $1.2 billion.

Nation's Restaurant News ranks Golden Corral #1 in the grill-buffet segment and Entrepreneur named Golden Corral the #1 franchisor in the family steakhouse category.
