Firehouse Subs Tennis Tournament Raises $50,000 For The Muscular Dystrophy Association
(Monday, June 02, 2003) -
The Firehouse Subs Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Tennis Tournament took place on May 16, 17 and 18, raising $50,000 for the MDA. Robin Sorensen, CEO and co-founder of Firehouse Subs, presented seven-year-old Iris Roberts with the $50,000 check at the tennis tournament, which was held at Deerwood Tennis Complex.
Roberts has had Myotonia Congenita, a form of Muscular Dystrophy, since birth. Although confined to a wheelchair, her perseverance is inspiring, which is why she was recently appointed as the 2003 State of Florida Junior Goodwill Ambassador for the MDA.
"This was a special year for the tournament because we met our goal of raising $50,000, which is the most that has ever been raised," says Robin Sorensen. "All of the hard work paid off when I had the pleasure of presenting the check to Iris Roberts."
Firehouse Subs has been involved with the tennis tournament for the past four years and has raised more than $120,000 for the MDA. The money raised helps provide medical care and equipment for MDA clients in North Florida and South Georgia. It also helps send children to the 2003 MDA Camp Love in Live Oak, Florida, which fosters self-worth and allows the children to enjoy activities often not available to them.
