Young Restaurant Entrepreneur Awarded Top Honor, Opens Second Location

FARGO, ND (Tuesday, February 28, 2006) - Riding on the success of his first restaurant in Moorhead, and the opening of his second location in Fargo, Erbert & Gerbert's Subs & Clubs owner, Ted Horan, is proving to be a budding young entrepreneur in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Owning and operating restaurants is not the career path Horan has always been on. As the former manager of Music Organizations for Concordia College, Horan produced Concordia's annual Christmas Concert and managed The Concordia Choir. After his seven-year involvement with Concordia College, Horan's entrepreneurial spirit took over. "I decided a year ago to make my dreams of owning my own business come true, and what a more perfect way to do that than by bringing the residents of Fargo and Moorhead the best sandwiches available," states Horan.

Horan's rapid success has come from a lot of hard work, dedication and a great mentor. Horan is co-partners with his long-time friend and entrepreneurial idol Joe Cody. Cody is the owner of several franchises including TGI Friday's, Old Chicago, Arby's and Taco Johns. "Joe has taught me everything I know about running successful restaurants," said Horan. "I couldn't imagine a better mentor and business partner."

Horan's developing leadership among his franchisee peers was quickly recognized. In February at the company's annual convention, Horan was awarded the "Rookie of the Year," an honor that recognizes an outstanding new franchisee that demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and superior operational skills. In addition, Horan was elected by his fellow owners to the President's Advisory Council, a small group of owners that advises the franchise company on strategic decisions and planning.

"Ted has shown a great deal of leadership and ingenuity in his first year as an owner," said Eric Wolfe, President and CEO, Erbert & Gerbert's Subs & Clubs. "He is a hard worker and a valuable member of his community and ours."

Although the transition to his new career was not easy for Horan, the hard work and sacrifice has finally begun to pay off. In its first year, his Moorhead location experienced consistently strong sales growth, and showed to be one of the strongest restaurant openings in Erbert & Gerbert's history. "Moorhead certainly did not open quietly. We pounded the pavement to get our name out in the community long before we opened and we continue to work hard to be a strong presence in Moorhead," said Horan. "We've been surprised by how many people have urged us to open a location in Fargo."

Horan opened his second location in Fargo on Wednesday, March 15 at the South Point Strip Mall. Although open for just a short time, this location is hinting to be just as strong as Moorhead. When asked what the future holds, Horan is enthusiastic about furthering his involvement in the community and continuing to build the Erbert & Gerbert's brand in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

E&G Franchise Systems, Inc. was founded in 1987 by Kevin and Beth Schippers in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Kevin's father, David Schippers, created the stories of Erbert & Gerbert Herbert which tell of the boys' travels through space and time to learn about history, science and being a friend. There are 42 E&G locations in the Midwest and several more openings are scheduled throughout 2006.
