Duke Sandwich Announces Spartanburg Franchise

SPARTANBURG (Thursday, March 16, 2006) - The Duke Sandwich Company has signed an agreement for a franchise location in Spartanburg County- with more growth anticipated within the county. The new restaurant is scheduled to open in late fall of this year and will be located near Westgate Mall.

Randy McGarity, a Spartanburg County native, is the new franchise owner. McGarity is currently the CEO of several businesses — including five Servpro franchises serving the Greenville/Spartanburg Area. McGarity also has previous experience with restaurant operations, having been the owner of Randy's Drive In and co-owner of The Old Cypress Family Restaurant.

"Duke Sandwich is an established family-operated business that is known and respected in the upstate," said McGarity. "I anticipate tremendous growth opportunities for the Duke franchises."

In addition to the new restaurant to be built near Westgate Mall, McGarity has reached an agreement to own and operate all other Duke Sandwich locations in Spartanburg County — including the current company-owned restaurant in Duncan. "We're very excited to bring someone onboard who has so much knowledge of both franchise operations and the restaurant business," said Andrew Smart, Duke Sandwich company president. "We feel that Randy McGarity will make an excellent addition to the Duke Sandwich family."

Once opened, the new restaurant will offer the company's signature spread sandwiches, along with a variety of soups, salads and desserts. As with other franchise locations, some new features will be added to the traditional Duke approach, such as the addition of a drive thru window.

After nearly 90 years in the food service industry, Duke Sandwich Company announced plans to franchise in 2004. The plans became official when the company launched a new division of the company, Duke Sandwich Franchising, Inc. to manage franchising inquiries and provide support services to new stores. The franchising division is currently offering franchise opportunities in four Southeast states: South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee and has signed seven franchise agreements throughout upstate South Carolina.
