The Booster Advantage!
(Sunday, June 01, 2003) -
Start with a world of freshness in shimmering juices, wholesome veggies and brilliant fruit blends. Add scientifically advanced herbal additives and silky yogurts and you've got the Booster advantage! Booster Juice is the brain-child of Jon Amack, a former electrical engineer and Dale Wishewan, a former mechanical engineer. Take away the electric and the mechanics and you have two engineers. Now, two juice engineers. Created in 1999, Booster has taken the juice industry by storm, placing a foothold in the wide open Canadian market then inching into the US. "We currently have 85 locations," says Amack. Booster Juice's corporate offices, which boast 18 employees, are located in Edmonton, Toronto and Nevada.
"Our franchise is truly a turn-key opportunity. When a franchisee first walks into their store it looks like it has been open for a year." Initial support for a Booster Juice franchisee seems extensive. There is even a "Friends and Family Day" prior to opening. "We don't lake any chances," says Amack. "Initial support includes ten days of training. Five of those are office-based and five are on the floor. Our corporate trainers then train staff for a day in the location," Amack also sites their ongoing franchise advisory committee which meets four times per year. Regional meeting are conducted twice per year. What is the most unique tool? It would have to be a local marketing kit which features summations and descriptions of all the other successful rollouts.
KarryAnn Caines, who owns the Ft. McMurray, Alberta franchise has eight months experience under her belt. "The best part was walking into a turnkey situation. We were able to immediately begin working on our huge repeat business customer base." Although KarryAnn sites "seasonality" as being her largest challenge, the business model has proven successful.
"I see the largest challenge, on a corporate level, being to get people all across the country to learn from each other on an ongoing daily basis not yearly. So when mistakes are made they are made and shared, and when successes arc made, they are made and shared. This is crucial," Booster Juice doesn't seem interested in opening locations to get a dot on the wall. "We are extremely picky about real estate," says Amack. "Our goal is always to make a successful business opportunity for a franchisee,"
Booster Juice gives customers and staff a vibrant, energetic, upbeat and fun new concept to make healthy selections in fueling their bodies. This approach is what they believe will turn them into a substantial chain that will dominate the market.
Kara Johnston, who has been a Booster Juice owner for six weeks, is enjoying her new business located in the Alberta province. Kara was the ultimate juice bar fanatic, stopping in to intake the healthy drinks rather than a fast food meal "I am a competitive athlete and needed a healthy alternative. When my Uncle came to me asking about lucrative investments, my first thought went to Booster Juice!" Kara opened her doors shortly thereafter. "Start up support was phenomenal. They hold your hand; you arc never in the dark. I never dreamed a franchise would be like this," quirks Johnston.
The company makes its own fresh non-fat yogurt, and its premium wheatgrass- an organic powerhouse of amino acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, lecithin and chlorophyll - is grown locally and continues to grow on site! With the hip and funky decor, Booster Juice attracts everyone from kids to moms to baby boomers looking to stay healthy. Each location is evolving better than the last. Seems the leaders in this organization are focused and determined. "Success is going to come from doing more things right than wrong," says Amack. "The most rewarding thing about Booster Juice to me, personally, is making other people successful."
