Booster Juice To Make Big Splash!
(Thursday, March 27, 2003) -
As if energized by one of its own ginseng supplements, Booster Juice plans to open 50 new stores this year, bringing the total to 125. All 50 will be outside Edmonton, home to the firm's head office, said co-founder Dale Wishewan. There are 23 outlets in the Edmonton area. "We've pretty well penetrated this market." Five new ones will open in Calgary, which now has five. Nine new ones have already opened in 2003, including in Banff, Lethbridge, Lloydminster, Prince Albert, Ottawa and Toronto.
"B.C. is our next big expansion area," Wishewan said. And the company recently signed its first deal in Montreal. Next up will be four United States targets: Denver, Phoenix, Boston and Portland, hometown of partner, Jon Amack.
"We haven't wanted to expand too fast," Wishewan said. "We want to make sure we've got our feet under us." Formed in November 1999, Booster Juice has 1,600 people working in the stores, dispensing various varieties of fruit juices, sorbet and yogurt, which can include natural food additives such as ginseng. Revenue doubled last year. Sixty-five of the 75 branches are locally owned franchises; 10 outlets remain in the hands of Wishewan and Amack.
