A&w® Restaurants Juke Box Survey: "i'm A Believer" Tops The Charts

Monkees Classic Picked No. 1 Over Don McLean's "American Pie"

(Monday, August 16, 2004) - A&W® Restaurants are famous for hometown food made fun – Root Beer Floats, hamburgers and hot dogs, chili cheese fries, and milkshakes. While the food makes dining at A&W® a special experience, adding to the fun is the jukebox music for which the chain is known.

With Rock & Roll celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer, A&W® Restaurants recently conducted a purely-for-fun, non-scientific survey to determine the most popular Rock & Roll songs on A&W® jukeboxes across the country. When the results were tallied, The Monkees' classic "I'm a Believer" topped Don McLean's "American Pie" as "A&W's Greatest Hit."

"The fun-loving families who visit A&W® Restaurants have spoken and ‘I'm a Believer' is No. 1 on our Rock & Roll Top 10 list," said Ken Thewes, Director of Marketing for A&W® Restaurants, Inc. "The list is made up of some classic Rock & Roll songs; it's obvious our customers have great taste in music, as well as great taste in food."

"I was pleased to see that Chubby Checker's ‘The Twist' ended up in the top three on our list," Thewes added. "In many of our restaurants, having "Twist" dance contests for customers is a tradition. As a result, Chubby Checker's classic gets a lot of play at A&W®."
