(Monday, May 12, 2003) - Writers Luisa Kroll and Emily Lambert share stories of laid off executives who turn business owner. One such entrepreneur is Mac Johnson, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care franchise in Santa Barbara, Calif. Mac and his wife Susan started their franchise after Mac lost his job as a corporate vice president. Here's an excerpt: "They (the Johnsons) considered starting an outdoor market with friends back in Omaha, but couldn't make the numbers work. They even looked at fast-food franchises, but didn't like the idea of having to put up a lot of capital. A friend of their son's suggested Home Instead."
