"Strong & Exciting Bakery Award" &"phenomenal Bread Award"
HOLLADAY (Wednesday, March 23, 2005) -
Great Harvest Bread in Holladay received the franchise company's "Strong & Exciting Bakery Award" and the "Phenomenal Bread Award" during a recent annual convention in Alberta, Canada. The local bakery, at 4667 South 2300 East, was selected from 210 Great Harvest stores in 40 states. It's owned and operated by Nan and Stephen Washburn and Toby Chipman. The Holladay location was the first of 14 Great Harvest stores in Utah. The Washburns and Toby Chipman have been baking fresh bread as a team since they began working as bakery employees in 1985. The "Strong" element of the award is based on effiency and sales; the "Exciting" element on the overall feeling of the business — the music, cleanliness, customer service, signs, merchandising, and taste of bread. In 2004, the Washburns and Chipman remodeled the store, added sandwiches to its product mix and involved staff in strategy for increasing sales. The store will host a 20th birthday bash April 16, giving away loaves of bread, cookies and gift baskets.
