Fox Named 2002 Small Business Person Of The Year In Pa.

PITTSBURGH, PA. (Thursday, April 25, 2002) - Jim Fox, founder and president of Pittsburgh-based Fox's Pizza Dens, Inc., has been named the 2002 Pennsylvania Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. His company is a 225-store chain of fast-food outlets spread mostly throughout the eastern U.S.

The nomination makes Fox a candidate for the 2002 National SBA Award, and one among awardees from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guam, who also are under consideration for the national prize.

Fox will be honored at two U.S. Small Business Administration events, including the 26th Annual SBA Small Business Awards Luncheon on May 3 in Pittsburgh, and National Business Week ceremonies including a Capitol Hill luncheon, May 6-8 in Washington, D.C.

Fox founded his chain in 1971 in Pitcairn, Pa., and has built it up to a business producing $70 million in annual sales.

According to a release, while succeeding as an entrepreneur, Fox mentored young people on achieving financial independence. He is also an active volunteer and supporter of community initiatives helping people with disabilities.

"Jim is not a profit maximizer; Jim is a people maximizer," said Linda Smith, vice president, government sponsored lending at PNC Bank in Pittsburgh. "He epitomizes the true entrepreneurial spirit and unselfishly helps others to achieve success -- just as he has."
