Reservations For Dog Day Care Triple For The Three-day Weekend

VIENNA, VA, (Saturday, May 28, 2005) - For most Americans, Memorial Day weekend is all fun and games. But for employees at Happy Tails Dog Spa™, a dog daycare center in Vienna, Va., they will be working their tails off.

Workers at the dog day care center are bracing for triple the number of dogs they typically accommodate on the average weekend. This weekend will mark the most dogs the daycare center has ever accommodated on a holiday weekend.

"It looks like many of us will be celebrating the Memorial Day weekend late Monday night, after all the dogs are picked up," said Amy Nichols, president & CEO of Happy to be Here, Inc., the franchise company of Happy Tails Dog Spa™. "So instead of serving burgers and watermelon to family and friends, we'll spend the weekend serving up dog food and dishes of water."

As of late Wednesday night, reservations have been taken for more than 100 dogs, filling the facility to near capacity.

"Many people are going away for the weekend," Nichols said. "Others are having friends and family over for the holiday, and would prefer their dogs to stay with us. We're happy to have them."

It is expected to be a busy summer at Happy Tails, as many people take vacations. To accommodate the anticipated swell of canine customers, a 700-square-foot open training room has been converted into a playroom.

There is a high demand for dog day care in Northern Virginia; Happy Tails is soon opening a franchise in Ashburn and is actively looking for more franchisees and locations throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Happy Tails is a place where pets are valued as family – where dogs enjoy endless playtime and spa treatments in a positive environment. Dog owners have the assurance of leaving their beloved pets in the hands of trained professionals. The Happy Tails staff nurtures each pet with attention and love.

Happy Tails offers a variety of fun activities, sociable training and comfortable boarding for dogs of all ages, shapes, sizes, abilities and temperaments.

"What makes Happy Tails Dog Spa so different is our ability to provide dogs with a fun and positive experience," Nichols said. "Owners no longer have to feel guilty when they have to travel for work or when they go on vacation, because they know their dog loves it here!"

Nichols offers franchisees a solid business support system, with step-by-step guidelines to operate a successful Happy Tails. Company officials will guide franchisees through every phase of opening a Happy Tails, from site selection, to the layout of the facility to an unparalleled training program, both on-site and at corporate headquarters in Vienna.

Nichols said it is now a golden era for the pet care industry, noting the number of dog owners in the United States has swelled to nearly 50 million.

"Pet spending has dramatically increased over the last decade, and there is no end in site," she said. "Last year, total pet expenditure reached an astronomical $34.3 billion. More and more dog owners are providing their family pets with the kind of care they would give their own children."
