Quiznos Coming To Town

MUSKOGEE/PHOENIX (Thursday, January 26, 2006) - A Quiznos Subs franchise will open in about 60 days in the 500 Block of North Main Street.

A city building permit for $275,000 reflects the 1,839-square-foot sub and sandwich shop is in a shopping center on the east side of the street. The center is owned by First Land Management, L.L.C.

A local firm, RBA/Ricketts Construction, dba as Ricketts Construction, is the contractor. Chief Executive Officer and President Bill Ricketts confirmed plans show Quiznos will be able to seat at least 45 customers inside and will include a patio with umbrella tables for more seating.

Ricketts declined further comment, saying Quiznos prefers to make a formal announcement. Ricketts said he could not say who will own the Muskogee franchise.

Two of the owners of First Land Management are Patrick Cale and David Miller Jr. Miller is out of town on business this week and Cale, who lives in Arizona, could not be reached for comment.

Quiznos has more than 4,400 locations, mostly franchise stores in the United States and 15 foreign countries, according to a media release dated last week.

The business began in the kitchen of Footer's Italian restaurant in Denver. The franchisor is a privately-held company with 300 employees.

The owners of Footer's used baguette-style bread, red-wine vinaigrette dressing and tuna salad created in their kitchen to establish their new venture, opening the first Quiznos in Denver in 1981.

Quiznos is listed as one of the top 10 fastest-growing franchises by the "Franchise 500." "Entrepreneur" magazine ranked the chain No. 2 in the "Top 10 Franchises of 2005."

The toasted signature sub and sandwich shops also serve soups and salads. Quiznos bills itself as a quick service restaurant that is a leader in the upscale sandwich category.

Quiznos recently issued a release that as part of celebrating its 25th anniversary, it is giving away 12 restaurants throughout 2006, "providing 12 lucky people the chance to achieve their own American dream."

There will be: In-store sweepstakes, signature sub recipe contest for wannabe chefs and a video contest open to people wanting to own a business.

But the events won't begin in Muskogee for at least 60 days.
