Young Brings Experience As New Molly Maid President
Successful Franchisee has Strong History of Management Expertise
ANN ARBOR, MI (Tuesday, March 07, 2006) -
Molly Maid, Inc., turned to one of its own in naming Harrison (Harry) Young II president of the international residential cleaning franchisor with more than 500 franchises worldwide.
Young has more than 30 years of domestic and international management experience and has been president and CEO or COO of six companies with annual sales ranging from $3 million to $100 million. In addition, Young and his wife, Emelie, have owned Molly Maid of Greater Austin (Texas) since 1995 and have grown their annual franchise sales to more than $1.4 million.
"Harry's professional business background as well as his experience as a successful franchisee makes him uniquely qualified to lead and direct the Molly Maid system," said David McKinnon, chairman and CEO of Ann Arbor Mich.-based Service Brands International, Molly Maid's parent company.
With franchises in 34 states, Puerto Rico, England, Canada, Japan and Portugal, Molly Maid had revenues of over $100 million in the U.S. in 2004. Projections call for 40 new franchises to be added in 2005 as the residential cleaning services industry continues to grow. According to estimates, by the year 2006, more than 12 million households in the United States will use paid domestic services.
"We're growing and adding franchises at a record rate," Young said. "Consumer sales are climbing and Molly Maid offers a very good opportunity for individuals to join a growing franchise system."
Young said his 10 years' experience as a successful Molly Maid franchisee will play an important role in his new position. Young will maintain ownership of his Austin Molly Maid franchise.
He has worked extensively with Molly Maid, Inc., while serving on the Franchise Advisory Council and has been active on various franchise committees, including technology and national marketing. Young has also been a business advisor for Molly Maid, Inc., a position in which he trained and then supported new franchisees during their start-up operations.
"My experience as a franchisee is going to be extremely important," said Young, who also owned and operated a Dunhill Personnel franchise from 1985 to 1990. "I have a complete understanding of what the franchisee needs from the moment they sign the franchise agreement."
Young's prior experience was primarily in technology and defense-related industries. In his most recent position as CEO of Advanced Programming Concepts, a high-technology systems integration and custom software development company, Young increased annual sales from $2 million to more than $25 million during his tenure. Prior to that, Young was president and COO of JWK International, where in three years he doubled sales and profits of the Washington, D.C.-based defense logistics and technology company.
In addition to his extensive management experience, Young has held 11 board memberships, including two with publicly traded firms. He said his skills would translate easily into his new position.
"In pure corporate management, the principles that we follow – principles of ethics, integrity and financial management – do not vary much from one business to another," Young said.
While Molly Maid will represent the seventh company where Young has served as either president, CEO or COO, he said he had one prerequisite for the job.
"I wanted to do something fun," Young said. "I like the Molly Maid system. My wife and I are 10-year franchisees who are just as energized today as were 10 years ago."
