Dwyer-owens Receives Support Sector Champion Award From U.s. Dept. Of Veteran Affairs

(Monday, June 20, 2005) - Dina Dwyer-Owens, president and CEO of The Dwyer Group, received the Support Sector Champion Award from Deputy Secretary Gordon H. Mansfield, of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, at a special ceremony today in Washington, D.C.



The award was part of the 4th Annual Champions of Veterans Enterprise program, which recognizes significant contributions by organizations and individuals who are dedicated to expanding business opportunities for veterans and service-oriented disabled veterans.



Dwyer-Owens was honored for her role as Chair of the VetFran [Veterans Transition Franchise Initiative] Committee for the International Franchise Association. VetFran encourages franchise companies to offer monetary discounts to veterans on the purchase of their own franchise. The program was originally established by her father, the late Don Dwyer Sr., in 1991 and endorsed by the IFA. Since then, Dwyer-Owens has played a key role in reintroducing the merits of VetFran and rallying more companies to participate. Today 164 franchise companies across the U.S. are involved with VetFran and have helped 355 veterans realize their dreams of owning their own business and leading a successful life in the private sector.



"I'm extremely pleased to accept this award on behalf of a fantastic program that has helped countless veterans lead happy and successful lives after faithfully serving our country," Dwyer-Owens said. "And I dedicate this award to my father, the founder of the program, who was a veteran and a visionary for what the franchising industry could do and should do on behalf of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces."
