Dairy Queen® Says "Aloha" To The New Year
Hawaiian Blizzard® is Januarys Blizzard of the Month
MINNEAPOLIS (Sunday, January 01, 2006) -
In January, Dairy Queen® will offer a retro Blizzard with a twist, combining the cool taste of DQ® soft serve and tropical fruit flavors.
The international retail treat-category leader will usher in the New Year with the Hawaiian Blizzard, which debuted in 1985 as one of 16 original flavors, as Januarys Blizzard of the Month.
The Hawaiian Blizzard blends sweet pineapple chunks, freshly sliced banana and creamy DQ®soft serve with the added new twist of toasted coconut. The toasting process crisps the coconut to fully enhance its flavor. This island-inspired Hawaiian Blizzard is available at all Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® restaurants nationwide beginning Jan. 1, 2006.
First throwback jerseys, now retro Blizzards, said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for International Dairy Queen. This is something different for Dairy Queen, bringing back one of the unique, original Blizzard flavors. Aside from the fact the name, Hawaiian Blizzard, is an oxymoron, fans will enjoy the combination of our famous soft serve with fruit. Its a hot choice for the winter season.
Dairy Queen began blending simple combinations of cookies and candies, fruit, nuts and DQ soft serve, 21 years ago to create the signature Blizzard Frozen Treat. Since then, one-of-a-kind flavors, such as Strawberry CheeseQuake®, Brownie Batter, Pumpkin Pie, Cotton Candy and Double Fudge Cookie Dough have delighted Dairy Queen fans as featured Blizzards of the Month, a program that began in 2003.
The average retail price of the Hawaiian Blizzard is $2.39 for the 12 oz., $2.79 for the 16 oz. and $3.19 for the 21 oz.
