Papa Murphy’s Take ‘n’ Bake Pizza, Signs Area Development Agreement For Kansas City

KANSAS CITY (Friday, May 06, 2005) - The company’s recapitalization by Charlesbank Capital Partners in 2004 has led to aggressive growth plans nationwide, with 115 new locations scheduled for this year. Kansas City is one of several Midwest markets that is seeing a concentrated expansion effort; others include Chicago; Detroit; St. Louis; Indianapolis; Wichita, Kan.; and major markets in Ohio.

“We’ve seen a trend of strong openings for our locations in the Midwest; residents are responding really well to the convenience of take-and-bake,” said Peter Fowler, VP of Business Development. “We’re very excited to have found outstanding multi-unit franchise owners who can boost our growth in the Kansas City market.”

Papa Murphy’s entered the Kansas City region in 1999 and currently has 15 locations there. Eric Scoggin and Chris Copp own Papa’s Favorite LLC, the company that will open and operate the 15 additional sites planned for the area. Their first store is scheduled to open in June in Leavenworth, Kan.; and at least two more openings are planned later this year in the Kansas City market. In all, the 15 new locations will bring hundreds of jobs to the area, including numerous opportunities for store managers and multi-unit managers.

Scoggin has more than 30 years experience in the restaurant industry; most recently he was an executive for Applebee’s International. He also has experience in the take-and-bake segment, having served as president and co-founder of a multi-unit take-and-bake concept in Dallas in the 1980s and 1990s. During more than 20 years as a Papa Murphy’s franchise owner, Copp has operated a dozen of the company’s locations. He has been honored with the company’s Franchisee of the Year award, which recognizes outstanding sales, operations and teamwork.
