Dippin’ Dots Competes In Lacrosse

LACROSSE, WIS (Wednesday, November 23, 2005) - As retailers nationwide compete for business on the busiest shopping day of the year Friday, Wisconsin’s newest Dippin’ Dots Franchisee knows all about competition.

Long-time local office holder State Senator Dan Kapanke (R-LaCrosse) and his family open their Dippin’ Dots ice cream kiosk Wednesday, just two days before the official start of the holiday shopping season. The kiosk is near Walden Books at Valley View Mall.

“I love a challenge,” said Kapanke, “not only do we want to be the destination for Dippin’ Dots, we want to be a signature franchise for the company.”

Kapanke and his wife Ruth pursued a Dippin’ Dots franchise after hearing about the unique ice cream through Dan’s other passion…baseball! The Kapankes own the LaCrosse Loggers summer collegiate baseball team. Other Northwoods League baseball franchise owners convinced Kapanke he needed Dippin’ Dots at Copeland Park. Taking it one step further, Kapanke became a full-fledged Dippin’ Dots franchisee for retail locations, fairs, festivals and sporting events.

The Kapankes, along with their daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and Tom Olsen, plan to offer at least a dozen flavors of Dippin’ Dots. Store hours will be the same as the mall’s during the holiday season.

Dippin’ Dots are tiny, cryogenically frozen beads of ice cream, yogurt, sherbet and flavored ice. Invented in 1988 by microbiologist and entrepreneur Curt Jones, Dippin’ Dots offers more than 20 different flavors, plus seasonal flavors. The company’s administrative and production headquarters are located in Paducah, Kentucky. Dippin’ Dots are sold in 250 retail locations and thousands of entertainment venues and special events nationwide. The company’s Global division oversees licensees in nine countries.
