Valvoline Instant Oil Change 'Famous Cars Roadshow' Brings Hollywood To The Main Streets Of America

Cross-Country Tour Will Benefit Charity Cars, Inc

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (Friday, August 02, 2002) - With a goal of raising funds and awareness for a program that provides cars to those in need, the Valvoline Instant Oil Change (VIOC) "Famous Cars Roadshow" embarked on a three-month national tour today from New York City. The traveling exhibit, comprised of legendary vehicles from some of America's favorite films and television shows, was unveiled at a kick-off event at Planet Hollywood by Dukes of Hazzard alumnus Tom Wopat before commencing on its cross-country trek.

In addition to Wopat's beloved Dukes of Hazzard co-star, "The General Lee," the exhibit features cars from such films and television shows as The Flintstones, Starsky & Hutch, The Beverly Hillbillies and Back to the Future, as well as this summer's blockbuster, Road to Perdition, starring Tom Hanks and Paul Newman.

VIOC initiated the "Famous Cars Roadshow" to celebrate the passion for cars embodied by its slogan, "Cars. We Know 'Em. We Love 'Em." The exhibit provides a fun-filled trip down Memory Lane for anyone who has ever fallen in love with a classic car, a favorite film or television show, or who simply enjoys "star-gazing" as celebrities come down off the screen and into their community. It is also an opportunity to support a cause that similarly centers around automobiles: Charity Cars, Inc. provides vehicles to victims of domestic violence and the disadvantaged through partnerships with local organizations. VIOC will donate $10 for each oil change performed at a service center while the exhibit is on-site.

"Charity Cars' affiliation with the VIOC 'Famous Cars Roadshow' gives us the opportunity to share our mission with a greater audience than ever before, including potential donors, local partners such as domestic violence centers and welfare organizations and, of course, the many qualified individuals who would benefit greatly from our services," said Charity Cars, Inc. President Brian Menzies. "This support and exposure will help us make a difference for many people on the road to independence."

From New York, the VIOC "Famous Cars Roadshow" will travel west and south, making appearances at VIOC service centers and other locations along the way. Car, film and television fanatics alike are advised to keep their eyes peeled for the "Famous Cars Roadshow" as it travels from city to city on a 53-foot Valvoline Instant Oil Change semi-truck. The exhibit will travel the highways of America through the end of October.

"We recognize the emotional connection people have with cars, whether from growing up watching them in movies and on television, or from the sense of independence owning a car provides," said VIOC President John Q. Wesley. "The 'Famous Cars Roadshow' allows us to honor some of America's most celebrated vehicles, entertain members of our community and support a cause that truly acknowledges the relationship between people and their cars."
