Plamondon Companies Celebrate 25 Years In The Saddle

Kicks Off Weekend Celebration of Serving the Frederick Community

FREDERICK, MD (Monday, July 25, 2005) - The Plamondon family will celebrate their “silver anniversary” in the hospitality business during a weekend of festivities kicking off Friday, August 5 at their first Roy Rogers restaurant. The restaurant, located in downtown Frederick at 1240 West Patrick Street, is also headquarters for the Plamondon Companies which opened its doors 25 years ago. Community officials such as County Commissioners Michael Cady, John Lovell, and Jan Gardner, Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, Frederick Tourism Director John Feiseler and other VIPS are expected to attend.


“We invited members of the community to join us to celebrate 25 years of success,” said Jim Plamondon, co-president and owner, Plamondon Companies. “The members of the communities we serve have been truly wonderful partners and we wanted to show them how much we appreciate their support over the years.”

The Plamondons have a long history with Roy Rogers dating back to 1968 when Peter Plamondon, Sr. helped create the chain while working as an Executive Vice President for The Marriott Corporation. He later became a Roy Rogers franchisee opening his first restaurant in Frederick, MD in 1980. Plamondon’s sons, Jim and Peter, have owned and operated the business since 1998 and bought the franchise rights to the brand in 2002. Today the company owns 15 corporate and oversees 40 franchise restaurants. Earlier this year, the company announced its expansion plans to double the chain’s store base to 100 by 2010 with plans to own 15-20 percent with the remainder to be owned and operated by franchisees. Areas targeted for growth include Montgomery County (where a new restaurant opened in 2004), Fairfax County, specifically the Dulles Corridor and possibly Arlington and Loudoun counties.


In 1996, the Plamondons entered the hotel business with the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. Today, the Plamondon Companies own and operate three Marriott branded hotels (Fairfield Inn, Courtyard and Residence Inn) in Frederick. They are planning to break ground on a fourth hotel, a SpringHill Suites by Marriott, in Hagerstown, Maryland in the fall of this year.


The anniversary celebration will kick off with a luncheon on Friday, August 5, where the Plamondon brothers will host more than 100 guests, recap the past 25 years and invite former employees to share their experiences.


In addition, they will present a check for $5,000 to the Frederick Community College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Institute which will go towards developing future hospitality talent.


There will also be special offers to mark the anniversary. Specifically, all 15 company-owned Roy Rogers restaurants in the region will feature $.25 Coca-Cola fountain drinks on Friday, August 5 to celebrate the 25-year partnership between the two companies. Patrick Street will feature 25% off Double R Bar Burger, Roast Beef and 2-piece chicken combos.

The Frederick location will feature radio remotes, pony rides, clown appearances, and prize giveaways throughout the day. Roy Rogers employees will also enjoy special treats all week as part of “Associate Appreciation Week”, celebrated each year on the companies’ anniversary.
