Airplane Mechanic Shifts To New Career

SYCAMORE (Friday, December 02, 2005) - Two well-known franchise names in automotive care, Mr. Transmission and Milex Auto Care Center, have combined to provide a one-stop shop. Owned by Mike Slavens and located at 1565 DeKalb Ave., the shop is the first co-brand Mr. Transmission/Milex Auto Care Center to open in the DeKalb area.

After working in the airline industry as a mechanic for more than 18 years, Slavens sought a new challenge and decided to take a leap of faith and open a business. He chose Moran Industries, franchisor of Mr. Transmission, Milex and several other automotive aftermarket franchises, to apply his business development and management skills, combined with his lifelong love of repair, toward a new career in the automotive service industry.

Mr. Transmission/Milex of Sycamore will perform a wide range of services for automobiles, both foreign and domestic. Later this year, Slavens plans to expand his business to include an Alta Mere center, America's largest window tinting and auto alarm franchise. Slavens' Alta Mere will offer DeKalb area car owners a complete selection of car and truck accessories, including paint protection, keyless entry, remote starts, vent visors, headlight and tail light covers, spoilers, in-dash stereo systems, amplifiers, CD changers and truck bed liners, as well as excellent service and expert installation, Slavens said.
