Elizabeth Edwards Makes An Impromptu Visit At Learning Express Toys In Pleasant Prairie

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WI (Thursday, October 21, 2004) - Today, Mary Lewis, owner of Learning Express Toys in Prairie Hills opened her store just like any ordinary day. Soon after unlocking the doors, five or six men in business suits entered and headed toward her stock room, and when she asked what they were doing, they identified themselves as the Secret Service. Mary proceeded to offer help to a customer nearby shopping for her 4-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, who later introduced herself as Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Vice Presidential Candidate John Edwards. Edwards is familiar with Learning Express stores because there are 5 of them in her home state of North Carolina.

While Edwards was shopping, Edwards and Lewis got into conversation about the upcoming election. Lewis inquired about why the presidential candidates seem to be focusing so much on Wisconsin and Edwards replied, ýthere is concentration in Wisconsin because it is a divided state.ý Lewis responded, ýJust like my householdýMy husband Bill is voting for Kerry and I am voting for Bush.ý Edwards asked, ýWhat do you need?ý Lewis answered, ýSmall businesses need help with healthcare, tax relief and employee benefits.ý Edwards informed Lewis, ýWell thatýs what we stand for.ý

Edwards and Lewis chose seven items for the Edwards children and while standing at the cash register, Edwards stated, ýI just love Learning Express.ý Lewis told her a little about Learning Express and the fact that a woman founded the specialty toy franchise of 107 stores. Edwards responded ýBetter yet.ý Edwards purchased two items from the Learning Express Holiday Catalog that is hitting consumer homes as we speak. Lewis considered asking Edwards for her autograph. However, she quickly realized she already had it; on her credit card slip.
