Gloria Jean's Coffees Signs Development Agreement In South East Asia

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (Tuesday, November 02, 1999) - Diedrich Coffee, Inc., the nation's second largest retailer in the specialty coffee market, announced its Gloria Jean's Coffees division has signed a franchise area development agreement with TT Resources BHD, a diversified foodservice company based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The agreement calls for the opening of 30 Gloria Jean's Coffees brand stores in three South East Asia countries. One of the new stores will be prominently located on the ground floor of the world's tallest building, the Suria KLCC Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur.

Under the terms of the agreement, the 30 Gloria Jean's Coffees stores will be opened over a 5-year period. These include 15 stores in Kuala Lumpur, five stores in Singapore, three in Brunei and the remaining sites will be determined later by the franchisee in cooperation with the Company.

Gloria Jean's Coffees is the leading brand in mall-based retail coffee stores. Worldwide, there are approximately 275 Gloria Jean's Coffees retail locations in seven countries. This includes 14 outlets in Asia with locations in Japan, Guam and Korea. The company also has signed agreements for the development of new Gloria Jean's Coffees retail stores in Australia and Turkey.

TT Resources BHD is one of two publicly traded foodservice companies in Malaysia, trading on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange. The company's business covers the whole spectrum of foodservices from fine dining restaurants and mass market catering to eat-in and take-out food retailing encompassing Chinese, Western and local cuisine.
