Fleet Feet To Host Adam Cross Day

ROCHESTER (Wednesday, October 27, 2004) - Dave and Ellen Boutillier of Fleet Feet Sports on 2210 Monroe Ave Brighton are hosting a fundraiser for former RIT cross country team member Adam Cross, a deaf student in hopes of helping him raise enough money to compete in the Deaf Olympic Games in Australia, January 2005. "We are doing an Adam Cross Day for him at Fleet Feet Sports on Sunday, October 24," said Ellen Boutillier.

Boutillier goes on: "What is Adam Cross Day? Well, let's tell you a little bit about him first. Adam was born in 1982. Like most children he started life like anyone else. Until his parents got him tested because they thought he just slept too much. Adam is deaf, and it wasn't until his little brother was born that his family realized it. Again, they just thought he slept a lot. By age of 3 he was wearing hearing aids in both ears, learning sign language and how to read lips."

"Fast forward to eleventh grade. Adam was fortunately mainstreamed into school (Irondequoit HS to be exact). He did have a note taker, but faired pretty well. This is when he found running and ran for the XC and track teams at Irondequoit. He is now in his last year at RIT getting a degree in IT. He ran for RIT under Coach Dave Warth. Fortunately, although his eligibilty has run out he still trains under Coach Warth. You see Adam is now preparing for the Deaflympics in Australia in January 2005."

"We invite the Rochester running community to come to Adam Cross Day on Sunday, October 24th from 12 – 5pm at Fleet Feet. Ten percent of all sales that day will go toward getting Adam to his dream - the Deaflympics, where he will be competing in the 800 and 1500 meter runs. Adam is a remarkably good man and will be onsite that day to meet everyone as well."
