ATLANTA, GEORGIA (Monday, September 19, 2005) -
CHURCHS CHICKEN™ TO DONATE UP TO 15 TRUCKLOADS OF CHICKEN TO SUPPORT HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF EFFORTS
COMPANY ALSO RAISING MONEY TO AID EVACUEES
ATLANTA (September 14, 2005) – Churchs Chicken™ is donating 10 full truckloads of chicken to Americas Second Harvest, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. Churchs also has chicken available for franchisees in the affected areas for local initiatives to aid Hurricane Katrina victims. That amount is equal to an additional five truckloads.
Churchs President and CEO Harsha Agadi said, Every member of the Churchs family who I have spoken with has urged that we do something meaningful, and that we do it fast. The magnitude of this disaster has been difficult to grasp. We have colleagues in and around New Orleans who are suffering. They are now among the evacuees. Everyone is in this together and its very important that we focus on helping our fellow citizens. Thats the most important business at hand.
"We are grateful for the generous donation from Churchs Chicken," said Robert Forney, president and CEO of Americas Second Harvest. "Their support during this time of need will make a tremendous difference to affected families.
Americas Second Harvest will deliver its 10 truckloads, or 350,000 half chickens, to people who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Churchs franchisees in stores located near the devastated areas can request some of and additional 216,000 half chickens the company has in warehouses, to provide meals to hurricane victims in coordination with shelters and relief centers.
Agadi added, We'll make this inventory available to franchisees at no charge to help them feed the evacuees in their area. Agadi pointed out that Churchs has a very strong presence in Texas and other Southeastern states where evacuees are currently being housed.
To further aid efforts, Churchs Chicken™ will also be accepting donations at individual restaurants for the hurricane victims. Every dollar donated by guests and franchisees will be matched by Churchs Chicken™ up to $250,000 and donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund.
