El Pollo Loco Signs Three-location Development Agreement With Established Franchise Developer In Texas

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (Monday, April 18, 2005) - El Pollo Loco, the nation’s leader in citrus-marinated, flame-grilled chicken, announced today it has formed a non-profit charity, El Pollo Loco Charities to significantly boost the restaurant chain’s impact in local communities by inviting El Pollo Loco employees and guests to join in.

“Fundamental to El Pollo Loco’s mission is an underlying pledge to give back to the communities we serve,” said Stephen Carley, CEO of El Pollo Loco. “We have a rich history of supporting charitable activities that improve life for the less fortunate in our communities.”

The new program will include several components, such as collection canisters in all El Pollo Loco restaurants, voluntary payroll deductions by El Pollo Loco employees, voluntary contributions from El Pollo Loco franchisees and various fundraising activities throughout the year. The program will also include a voluntary employee-based group, formerly called “Local Impact Committee,” who will donate time, money and resources to charities in the communities they live and work.

A key element of El Pollo Loco Charities will be sponsorship and support of Arnold’s All-Stars After-School Adventures (www.arnoldsallstars.org/). This vital program, which serves many of the same communities as El Pollo Loco restaurants, benefits local youth by improving academic performance and school attendance and preventing drug and alcohol use among junior-high students. It also inspires learning and respect and provides a safe haven at a time when young people are particularly vulnerable.
