Captain D's Seafood Franchisee Welcomes Home Local Soldiers

KANSAS CITY, KANSAS (Wednesday, September 25, 2002) - Captain D's Seafood franchisee Reel 'Em In, LLC, recently hosted a "Hero's Welcome" for 125 local soldiers from the Kansas Army National Guard 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry, returning home after seven months guarding U.S. military bases in Afghanistan. Kansas City-based Reel 'Em In provided 400 meals for soldiers and their families at a welcome home party for the troop days after its return after serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.
"When we learned that the soldiers were expected to return home, we were honored to be able to do something to thank them for selflessly serving our country and fighting terrorism," said Brian Studdard, Reel 'Em In President and CEO. "The least we could do was provide them with a little 'American cooking' they missed while overseas."

Studdard, along with his wife, Candy, also operate five Backyard Burgers franchises in the Kansas City area.

In addition to a catered meal of Captain D's and Backyard Burgers menu items, Reel 'Em In provided face-painting and a "moonwalk" for the soldiers' children, among other activities.

Men and women from the 2nd Battalion, 137th Infantry, were reunited with their families on Labor Day after Kansas Army National Guard officials presented them with Armed Forces Reserve Medals.

Captain D's currently has nine restaurants in the Kansas City area and plans to develop up to 23 new franchise units, creating 575 new jobs, in the area over the next five years.
