Captain D's Ranked 13 Out Of 100 In List Of Fastest Growing Restaurant Franchises

NASHVILLE, TENN. (Monday, July 28, 2003) - In March 2001, Captain D's Seafood announced the most aggressive plan in the company's history to expand its franchise operations. Two years later, the plan continues to show results.

In the June 30, 2003 issue of Nation's Restaurant News, a leading restaurant industry trade publication, Captain D's was ranked as the 13th fastest growing restaurant chain, as measured by growth in franchise units. That's up from 24th place in last year's rankings. The annual list is made up of the top 100 restaurant chains in the country.

"In today's economic environment, people are looking for a good return on the investments they make. We offer our franchisees a very attractive return on investment and that's a big reason why we continue to grow," said Darin Harris, vice president of franchise development for Captain D's. "We can do this by offering a smaller and more flexible prototype that keeps the initial investment in Captain D's very low compared to other concepts."

The new prototype concepts, which deliver significant savings on building, equipment, construction and real estate costs, will continue to be a key factor in the company's future growth.

As the chain continues to expand, Captain D's anticipates having two-thirds of its units owned and operated by franchisees. To accomplish this goal, the company is beginning to look at new markets outside of its traditional Southeastern footprint.

"It's no secret that we have a tremendous amount of brand recognition around the southeastern part of the country," added Harris. "However, we feel that our core menu, hospitality, and a commitment to offering a unique dining experience in the quick service market will allow us to succeed in new markets where we think we can fill a niche to a customer base that is underserved."
