Batteries Plus Shares Holiday-related Purchases With Ronald Mcdonald House Charities

HARTLAND, WISCONSIN (Thursday, November 29, 2001) - Each year, thousands of seriously ill children across the country must spend the Holiday Season alone in a hospital bed -- far from the comforts of family and home. At the same time, more fortunate consumers traditionally stock up on batteries for camcorders, cell phones and other products that help families build memories and reach out to each other.
Blending these two circumstances, Batteries Plus, a national retail and business-to-business battery chain, announced today a campaign that capitalizes on increased customer traffic during the holidays to help support Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provides temporary lodging facilities for the families of seriously ill children being treated at nearby hospitals throughout the country. With 211 Ronald McDonald Houses open in 19 countries, the organization has provided a "home-away-from-home" for nearly 3 million family members since its 1974 inception.

Through the "Together for the Holidays(TM)" campaign, which kicks off November 30 and lasts through December's end, Batteries Plus has committed to a corporate contribution of $30,000 to the Ronald McDonald House program, and will collect additional donations from customers who visit the chain's 186 stores nationwide during the holiday season.

"Our customers and our franchisees have big hearts and are eager to share with others who need their help," said Russ Reynolds, president and CEO of Batteries Plus. "Based on traditional increases in camcorder and cell phone battery sales, the Holidays are an ideal opportunity for our customers to make a connection with the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities. This campaign supports our business culture of being a community-minded business."

Batteries Plus customers will have an opportunity to make individual donations via donation boxes at 186 stores across the country. Customers making individual contributions may write their names on certificates to be displayed on the stores' windows.

Local chapters of Ronald McDonald House Charities support Ronald McDonald Houses and other children's programs in their communities. The Houses are run by boards comprised of members of the local medical community, business and civic leaders, parents/volunteers, and McDonald's representatives.

"Having so many Ronald McDonald Houses in communities where Batteries Plus stores are located provides for a potential future working relationship between Batteries Plus franchisees and our local chapters," said Tim Kennedy, Manager of Development for Ronald McDonald House Charities. "We appreciate Batteries Plus' generosity at the corporate level, and look forward to possibly expanding this campaign in the future to directly benefit local RMHC chapters."

Batteries Plus offers literally "1000's of Batteries for 1000's of Items(R)." The Company services the retail and business-to-business segments, and provides value added services including battery assembly, battery testing and analysis, and battery reconditioning. Batteries Plus currently operates 186 stores in 35 states across the nation, with an additional 79 stores under development.
