A&w Restaurants Named Winner Of First Ever 'Hot Again Award' By Nation's Restaurant News
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY (Tuesday, May 15, 2001) -
A&W Restaurants, the country's first franchise restaurant chain, will be named recipient of the first "Hot Again Award" by Nation's Restaurant News at the annual National Restaurant Association Show Dinner, May 20 in Chicago. The honor is part of Nation's Restaurant News, a restaurant industry trade newspaper, "Hot Concepts!"(TM) program that annually honors organizations developing cutting-edge operations with strong consumer appeal. This is the first ever "Hot Again Award."
A&W, which moved to Lexington last year after acquiring Long John Silver's Restaurants, was cited for the company's growth and increased profits since the long-time franchiser was acquired by Quick Service Restaurant Veteran Sidney Feltenstein and a group of investors in 1995.
Since that time A&W has grown by 600 units to 1,100 restaurants worldwide and has enjoyed a five-fold increase in profits. One of the A&W growth initiatives has been the introduction of co-brand restaurants with its sister company Long John Silver's, and the announcement of a plan to co-brand 300 KFC Restaurants.
To date the two companies have opened 65 KFC/A&W Restaurants and there are plans to open another 160 A&W/Long John Silver's units over the next 14 months.
A&W Restaurants is owned by Yorkshire Global Restaurants, Inc., which was formed last year as the holding company for both A&W and Long John Silver's Restaurants.
Founded in 1919 in Lodi, CA, A&W Restaurants offers an All American Menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, French Fries, chicken sandwiches, its signature soft drink A&W Draft Root Beer and A&W Draft Root Beer Floats. There are A&W Restaurants in 47 United States and 21 foreign countries
