Inner City Kids Get The Low Down On Hi-tech
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Thursday, April 07, 2005) -
Whats the difference between an object and a sprite? When youre shooting digital animated movies, how many frames per second should you use to smooth the motion? Chances are, if youre 30, you wont have a clue how to answer these questions. But Principal Gladys Camps grade 4 and 6 students at Thomson Elementary School in downtown Washington will talk like technology pros after their Childrens Technology Workshop session at the International Franchise Expo on Friday.
Childrens Technology Workshop, a leader in cutting-edge engineering & technology programs for children, will be at the Washington Conference Centre this week greeting hundreds of potential franchisees from around the globe. Each year they donate workshops to schools in the hope of spreading their passion for technology in education. We believe that the quality and depth of a childs educational experience is vastly superior when you combine technology with curriculum based learning, says President, Darryl Reiter. Studies have shown that technology helps higher-order thinking and we believe its a fantastic tool to help unleash creative problem-solving in every child. But dont tell the kids that! Science and technology has never been this much fun.
Walk into a Childrens Technology Workshop classroom and you wont find a bunch of computer geeks hunched over their desks. The noise level will tell you – these kids are excited. One group is problem solving a way to make their LEGO robot move across a Mars landscape, another is creating code for their video game. Dr. Camps students will spend a couple of hours learning about the principals of digital stop motion animation and will create their own production. If youd like to experience a workshop first hand, the International Franchise Expo is offering free kids programs for registrants between the hours of 10am – 4pm from Friday to Sunday.
