Duke Sandwich Company Announces Anderson And Clemson Franchise Agreements

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Wednesday, June 15, 2005) - Duke Sandwich Company has signed agreements for franchise locations in Anderson and Clemson. The Anderson restaurant is scheduled to open in early September on Clemson Boulevard. Opening in the spring of 2006, the Clemson restaurant will be within walking distance of Clemson University.
Don West, an Anderson native, is the new franchise owner. Prior to joining Duke Sandwich, West worked as an engineer.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for me to be involved in a business that I have enjoyed over the last 25 years,” said West. “I’m excited to be a part of a local franchise that offers such a unique, high-quality product.”
West has been enjoying Duke sandwiches since he moved to Greenville in 1980. His wife, from Travelers Rest, has eaten there since she was a child.
“I have wanted to own a business for years, but we could not find a company that seemed to fit us well enough. When we learned that Duke Sandwich was franchising, everything just fell into place,” said West.
Once opened, the new restaurant will offer the company’s original spread sandwiches, along with a variety of soups, salads and desserts. As with other franchise locations, some new features will be added to the traditional Duke approach, such as the addition of a drive thru window.

After nearly 90 years in the food service industry, Duke Sandwich Company announced plans to franchise in 2004. The plans became official when the company launched a new division of the company, Duke Sandwich Franchising, Inc. to manage franchising inquiries and provide support services to new stores. The franchising division is currently offering franchise opportunities in four Southeast states: South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.
Greenville, S.C.-based Duke Sandwich Company was founded in 1917 by Eugenia Duke. Now owned by the Smart family, Duke Sandwich has three company-owned locations in the Greenville, S.C. area, each offering catering services. In addition, Duke Sandwich has signed 10 franchise agreements throughout South Carolina.
