Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts Names 2004 Employee Of The Year

Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts, part of Minneapolis-based Carlson Hotels Worldwide, today announced that Fernando Amezcua-Medina has been named Employee of the Year for the midscale, full-service brand. Amezcua-Medina is a kitchen worker at the Park Plaza Las Vegas Lady Luck Casino Hotel and was chosen from more than 2,000 Park Plaza employees throughout North America for this honor. "If we had a person like Fernando on every shift our job would be much easier," said Wayne Merritt, general manager of the casino hotel. "Although he does not serve in an official leadership capacity, Fernando mentors others who work around him and is recognized as a star employee by his co-workers as well as the executive team at the Park Plaza." To be considered for this award, nominees must display consistent, outstanding performance; a commitment to quality and excellence in their responsibilities; and an ability to create meaningful and positive experiences for Park Plaza guests and other employees. Park Plaza employees exhibit a special guest-focused culture of service and deliver it with Park P.R.I.D.E. - which stands for Personal Responsibility, Integrity and Dedication to Excellence. Amezcua-Medina was born in Mexico; his wife and children still live there. He has sacrificed his daily life with his family to work in the United States in order to provide a better quality of life for them. He also volunteers as a coach for a little league baseball team in his neighborhood. "Because he works in the kitchen, most guests do not get to experience Fernando's great service and hospitality directly. The 789-room Park Plaza Las Vegas Lady Luck Casino Hotel, located downtown directly across from the Fremont Street Experience, offers four restaurants, 24-hour room service, concierge services, heated outdoor pool and gift shop. This is the second straight year that an employee from the Las Vegas hotel has been named Park Plaza's employee of the year. Last year Catalina Lopez Velazquez, front desk supervisor from the hotel, received the honor.
