International Organization Helps Kids Better Understand Technology

CYPRESS, TEXAS (Friday, March 19, 2004) - This is a month of joy for children’s educational technology provider COMPUTERTOTS®/COMPUTER EXPLORERS®. Founded in 1984, by educator Karen Marshall, and recently acquired by the International Center for Entrepreneurial Development (ICED), COMPUTERTOTS/COMPUTER EXPLORERS franchisees across the U.S. and in four countries are celebrating 20 years of helping children grow.

COMPUTERTOTS is the global leader in computer enrichment classes delivered at childcare centers and preschools. ” One of the most popular aspects of COMPUTERTOTS/COMPUTER EXPLORERS is a little green terrapin named CT. On March 17, fittingly St. Patrick’s Day, CT celebrated his 20th birthday. Marshall says that she created CT (short for Computer Turtle) because the company needed an interactive puppet that young children could relate to which could serve as the liaison between classroom teachers and computers. Children feel comfortable with CT, who is an important communication link, especially when a teacher takes over a new class.

“CT has brought joy to millions of children worldwide as they begin their journey using technology,” said Marshall.

Even though he just turned 20, CT will always be the proverbial age five – sort of a Jack Benny figure for today’s children. Since 1984, COMPUTERTOTS/COMPUTER EXPLORERS teachers have provided more than three million classes around the world.
