Beaner’s Gourmet Coffee Now Offering Electronic Gift Card

LANSING, MICH (Monday, September 06, 2004) - BEANER’S Gourmet Coffee has rolled out its new electronic gift certificate program company-wide, following three months of testing in the Toledo area stores. The new gift cards, called eCards, are currently available at most BEANER’S Gourmet Coffee locations, and are expected to be available at all stores by the end of September.



The eCards, which have no preset value, replace their paper predecessors which were available only in a $5.00 denomination. This new feature will allow customers the flexibility that is quickly becoming the gift certificate standard in the retail industry.



The new eCards also allow customers to ‘recharge’ by purchasing additional value to increase the card’s existing balance. Recharges have accounted for 24% of total eCard sales for the first three months of the program, suggesting that the eCard is being used not only as the intended gift certificate, but also as a form of currency by regular customers.



Future plans for the eCard include a second series of card that comes with a preset value and still retains the recharge functionality. The eCards will also eventually include a frequency card component, replacing the stamp cards currently in use in BEANER’S stores, allowing customers the ability to manage their accounts online and select the type of coupons they receive via email.
