Hmshost Awarded New York State Thruway Contract

Leading concessionaire to manage 12 travel plazas on America's longest toll superhighway

BETHESDA, MD (Wednesday, December 07, 2005) - HMSHost Corporation, one of the world's largest food, beverage and retail concessionaires to the travel industry, has been awarded a contract to develop and operate food and beverage concessions at twelve travel plazas on the New York Thruway. The longest toll superhighway system in the United States, the Thruway stretches 641 miles between New York City, Buffalo, and the Pennsylvania state line. Approximately 230 million vehicles travel more than 8 billion miles on the Thruway each year.

HMSHost has operated concessions on the New York Thruway since 1981 and is proud to continue its tradition of service to Empire State motorists.

The details of the new contract, which will begin in October 2006, are still being negotiated. The agreement is expected to run thirteen years with estimated revenues in excess of $1.0 billion over the life of the contract.

As part of the agreement, HMSHost will work with the New York State Thruway Authority to renovate the twelve travel plazas at various locations from New York City to just east of Rochester.

The travel plazas will feature a variety of new restaurants including: Starbucks Coffee, Burger King, Quizno's, Outback Steakhouse Outpost, Coldstone Creamery, Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips, and KFC. The plazas will also showcase Z-Market, a convenience store concept geared to the needs of the discerning motorist.
