Funk Honored as Entrepreneur of the Year

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (Tuesday, June 21, 2005) - Bob Funk, founder and chairman of Oklahoma City-based Express Personnel Services, has been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2005 award winner in the Business and Financial Services category. Funk was recognized for his outstanding entrepreneurial achievement of growing Express while taking the time to instill each new employee and franchisee with his philosophy of providing quality, ethical service.

The award recognizes entrepreneurs whose ingenuity, hard work and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing businesses. Funk received distinction for upholding standards of behavior and fostering a culture that strives to help others.

Funk was chosen because of his success with Express Personnel, which was founded during the oil bust in 1983, yet managed to earn $2 million in sales that year. Since then, the company has grown to $1.3 billion in sales while remaining privately-held. Under his leadership, sales for the company increased 28 percent during 2004 compared to only 13 percent for the staffing industry as a whole.

Ernst & Young honored Funk during an awards ceremony in Dallas . He was selected by an independent panel of judges composed of business, academic and community leaders from the southwestern region, which is comprised of Arkansas , Oklahoma and north Texas .

Express opened 58 new franchise offices last year, nearly doubling the previous record of 32 new offices in a single year. Never one to coast through life, Funk plans to keep the ball rolling in 2005 by hitting $1.7 billion in sales.
