AUNTIE ANNE'S CELEBRATES NATIONAL PRETZEL DAY BY TWISTING FOR KIDS

GAP, PA (Tuesday, April 19, 2005) - Auntie Anne’s Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels®, the nation’s largest hand-rolled soft pretzel franchise, will reserve Tuesday, April 26, as National Pretzel Day. To celebrate, participating stores nationwide will be kicking-off fund raising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network and honoring the history of the pretzel.

Reflecting on the Company’s origins, National Pretzel Day will also be reserved to recognize founder, “Auntie” Anne Beiler and the true purpose of why Auntie Anne’s was established. In 1988, Anne and Jonas created the Company to help children and their families – a vision near and dear to their hearts after experiencing the tragic death of their second child, Angela. Auntie Anne’s, Inc. continues to approach business in a way best described in “Auntie” Anne’s own words, “We give, to get, to give again.”

Auntie Anne’s franchise system will be demonstrating this giving philosophy by donating their time and hearts to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network. An active sponsor for six years, participating Auntie Anne’s stores around the nation will donate a percentage of pretzel sales on April 26, sell Miracle Balloons, and host pretzel events. All monies raised at each store will stay local to help kids at a Children’s Miracle Network hospital in that area.

“Pretzel Day” introduced to Congress in 1983, by then U.S. Representative Robert Walker (R, Pennsylvania), recognizes the invaluable contributions of the numerous pretzel bakeries within Pennsylvania. Historians trace the pretzel’s roots to 610 A.D. when a monk in Northern Italy folded scraps of bread dough to represent his student’s arms folded in prayer.
