SBARRO TAKES TOP HONORS AT FILIPINO PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS

MELVILLE, NY (Friday, August 22, 2003) - Sbarro, the Italian-food chain, was recently awarded at the 19th annual National Consumers Quality Award for excellence in product quality and consumer satisfaction.

The Ceremonies were held during the 2003 19th Annual National Consumers Quality & People's Choice Awards (NCQA) on July 19, in the Philippines. It awards quality consumer products, services, companies and manufacturers, as well as outstanding achievers from entertainment, business, public service, education, sports and other major professions.

Conceptualized in 1983 as the Annual People's Choice Awards, it was re-titled "Annual Consumers Quality Awards" to focus on the quality features and performance of the awardees.

The National Consumers Quality Awards is given based on quality and top consumer products, manufacturers and companies. Criteria used to determine the winners include product features or quality, contribution to customers or public service, public opinion and survey, and pricing. Foreign-based product brands being available by Filipino consumers are also qualified to vie for an award.

The certificate is given based on open public nomination, which is then followed by random consumer survey and research. Additionally, opinion polls are conducted to determine the winners, and the results serve as the basis of final selection of NCQA recipients.
