Blizzard® Takes the Cake!

DQ®’s flagship frozen treat is now available for the FIRST TIME in cakes.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Friday, July 01, 2005) - Since 1981 Dairy Queen® cakes have commemorated many happy occasions from birthdays to anniversaries to fun-filled family gatherings. Now the Blizzard®, DQ®’s iconic treat, is available for the first time as a cake, creating the most amazing frozen dessert combination since Blizzard turned the world "upside down" 20 years ago.

"Since the Blizzard is our single-most popular treat, it is a natural progression to add Blizzard flavors to our cakes, and their debut coincides with the celebration of the 20th birthday of the Blizzard," says Michael Keller, chief brand officer for International Dairy Queen. "DQ fans crave Blizzards as well as our popular frozen cakes, so now we are giving them a new and different way to enjoy both."

Available at participating Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill® locations that sell cakes nationwide, Blizzard cakes combine creamy layers of DQ soft serve, rich fudge crunch and a top layer of either Oreo® Cookies, Chocolate Xtreme or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup®. With advance notice, customers can special order their favorite Blizzard flavor including the popular Baby Ruth®, Butterfinger® Bar, Snicker’s® Bar, Cappuccino Heath® and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, as well as 2005 Blizzard of the Month flavors, Brownie Batter, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and French Silk Pie to name just a few..

The average price of Blizzard cakes is $19.99 for the eight-inch and $22.99 for the 12-inch. The new Blizzard cakes, like the classic Dairy Queen ChillabrationTM cakes, can be customized by ordering in advance. Check your local Dairy Queen to inquire about your favorite flavor.

As part of the Blizzard’s year-long 20th birthday bash, DQ also has launched a new Blizzard Fan Club Web site at www.blizzardfanclub.com and a DQ® Blizzard Birthday Bash Scratch & Win Game. Young DQ fans have their own online club at www.thedqlab.com with chances to win prizes.
