Southwestern Flavors Inspire New Dairy Queen® Entrée

Introducing the new Chili Lime Chicken Strip Basket.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Monday, August 01, 2005) - Beginning today, Dairy Queen® will offer a new Chili Lime Chicken Strip Basket made with four or six crispy strips of white meat chicken, coated with a tangy chili lime seasoning, and served with tri-colored tortilla chips and salsa ranch dipping sauce. This new entree is available at all DQ Grill & Chill® locations and select Dairy Queen restaurants nationwide.

Chicken strip baskets were first introduced on the DQ® menu in 1995. Since then, Dairy Queen has added several chicken strip taste variations, including the recent Wild Buffalo Chicken Strip Basket.

"Our new Chili Lime Chicken Strip Basket is a colorful fiesta of taste, bursting with flavor," said Michael Keller, chief brand officer for Dairy Queen. "With our basket meals, we create food at its cravable best to give DQ fans something new and exciting."

Chicken strips/fingers/tenders are the leading item on the menu at 87 percent of quick-service restaurants (QSRs) according to a 2003 menu census by Reed Research Group. They also are the second-most prevalent chicken item on the menu at 50 percent of all restaurants surveyed.

"The southwest influence with a seasoning such as chili lime is something new and different for the Dairy Queen menu. But we are hearing more and more from customers that they enjoy these trendy, multicultural flavors," said Keller.

National advertising will support the introduction of the Chili Lime Chicken basket.
