Ben & Jerry's Offers Free Scoops and Complimentary Mood Adjustments
BURLINGTON, VT (Thursday, March 31, 2005) -
It's an ice cream dream come true -- eight hours of all the free ice cream you can eat. Mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 19th, 2005 - Ben & Jerry's 27th annual Free Cone Day!
From noon to 8:00 p.m. in Ben & Jerry's scoop shops across the country -- and around the world -- ice cream lovers can enjoy a free cup or cone of their favorite flavor. If you're in need of some mood food, Free Cone Day is the perfect time to try one of Ben & Jerry's new Mood Magic flavors. These four indulgent flavors were designed to transport you from your current state of mood to mood nirvana, in a matter of spoonfuls.
Whether you've just realized "he's just not that into you" ...or you accidentally emailed a hilariously off-color joke to your boss ... or you arrived at a wedding in the same dress as the bridesmaids - there's a Ben & Jerry's Mood Magic flavor to match your mood.
For whatever kind of day you're having - on Free Cone Day or any day - the Mood Magic flavors will be there for you:
-- Nurse your wounded pride with Chocolate Therapy - Chocolate ice cream with chocolate cookies and swirls of chocolate pudding ice cream
-- Soothe your frazzled nerves with In A Crunch - Peanut butter ice cream with fudge-covered peanuts and a crispy fudge swirl
-- Cool your hot temper with The Last Straw - Strawberry ice cream with a fudge truffle swirl and strawberry-fudge chunks
-- Celebrate and live Appley Ever After - Brown sugar ice cream with a cinnamon-caramel swirl and apples
"Whether you opt for Mood Magic, or another of your favorite Ben & Jerry's flavors, you're guaranteed to experience a euphoric mood adjustment," says Graham Rigby, Brand Manager. "Free Cone Day is our way of saying thank you to our loyal fans. So whether you're in Paris or Portland, Denver or Dublin, Barcelona or Berlin, we invite you to stop by any of the more than 385 participating Ben & Jerry's scoop shops for a free cup or cone. And you can get in line as many times as you want and the line always moves quickly because there's no money changing hands."
Just how big is Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day tradition? Last year the scoop shops gave away more than 1 million free cones worldwide. Offering generous 4 oz. scoops (three inches across), one million scoops equals 250,000 pounds or 125 tons. All of the Free Cone Day scoops piled one on top of the other would scrape the sky at 250,000 feet -- 200 times taller than the Empire State Building!
