Really Hungry? Long John Silver's® introduces Big & Crunchy Salads that won't leave you hungry

LOUISVILLE, KY (Monday, May 10, 2004) - Research indicates that while consumers are adding salads to their diets, they also want to be filled up. To address that issue, Long John Silver’s® has introduced a line of Big & Crunchy Salads, which weigh over a half-pound. The salad line includes a Chicken Club Salad and a Shrimp & Seafood Salad.

“Our customers tell us that they want to enjoy salads at Long John Silver’s, but they also want to be filled up when they order them,” said Pam King, Director of Marketing for Long John Silver’s, Inc. “Our Big & Crunchy Salads won’t leave customers feeling hungry.”

After 35 years in the restaurant business, Long John Silver’s has earned a reputation as an expert in the seafood and chicken category. That expertise led to the introduction of Big & Crunchy Salads. Long John Silver’s introduced the Shrimp & Seafood Salad and the Chicken Club Salad on May 10. The Big & Crunchy Salads are the first menu items for the company’s new “Fresh Waves” product line, which will include other new products in the coming months.

The large dinner salads include romaine and iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, tomatoes, onions, croutons and cheddar cheese, and are topped with Long John Silver’s famous Crumblies®. The Chicken Club Salad features sliced Chicken Planks®, while the second salad is topped with shrimp and seafood. Both are intended as permanent additions to the menu.

“As the largest quick-service seafood restaurant chain, it makes perfect sense that Long John Silver’s would be the first fast-food company to introduce a Shrimp & Seafood Salad,” King added. “And with the taste of our famous Chicken Planks®, we’ve created a Chicken Club Salad that our customers will love. In both salads, our Crumblies® help provide the crunch that has made Long John Silver’s famous.”

Each of the Big & Crunchy Salads sells for $4.69 in company restaurants. Long John Silver’s will also offer a dinner-sized Garden Salad, which is priced at $3.49 in company restaurants. (Price may vary by location.)

A selection of dressings is available with Long John Silver’s salads, including Fat-Free French, Lite Italian, Thousand Island and Garden Ranch.
