Move Over Madison Avenue...KFC Challenges the Public to Create a Reality TV Commercial for Bigger, Better Popcorn Chicken
KFC to Premiere One of the First Commercials Written, Directed and Starring "Real" People
LOUISVILLE, KY (Tuesday, September 02, 2003) -
Taking a page from television's "real" people mania, KFC is inviting Americans to create a nationally televised commercial, which will become KFC's first foray into the reality commercial arena. The creative consumer who beats the competition will receive $10,000 and see their commercial air during prime time television this fall. Two runners-up will receive $5,000.
A Bigger, Better Contest The KFC spots starting Sept. 1 depict creative and humorous ways to eat Bigger, Better Popcorn Chicken. The first ad features a man in a reclining chair tossing a piece of Bigger, Better Popcorn Chicken in front of him. It immediately flies back into his open mouth, as the camera reveals an oversized electric fan as the power behind the rebounding chicken. The second ad shows a person tossing Bigger, Better Popcorn Chicken off a city rooftop, as a crowd gathers to witness the catch, similar to a late night TV stunt.
Based on the fun tonality of the ads, KFC challenges consumers to videotape and send in their own bigger, better commercial by Sept. 23. The contest winner's spot will air on network television during prime time on Oct. 2. Contest details, rules and regulations, as well as the ads on-air, are all available on kfc.com.
A Fan Club Worth Joining For contest entrants, as well as fans not taking this creative challenge, KFC has established the KFC Bigger, Better Fan Club also at kfc.com. Consumers who join the club will automatically have their names entered into a national sweepstakes to win a trip for two to one of the biggest events of 2004 - Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston. The first 2,000 fan club members also will receive coupons for Bigger, Better Popcorn Chicken.
Popcorn Chicken is Back -- Bigger and Better!
