Liberty Tax Service CEO Pledges Aid to South Asia Relief

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (Monday, January 03, 2005) - John Hewitt, Founder and CEO of Liberty Tax Service based in Virginia Beach, Va., has announced his intention to donate money to tsunami relief for every tax return his company prepares in tax season 2005. The contribution will be made to Stop Hunger Now, a charity founded by Hewitt in 1998 to help fight world hunger.

“It is our intent to donate something for every tax return Liberty Tax Service offices prepare. This will enable millions of customers to contribute to tsunami relief.”

Earlier this morning President Bush launched a nationwide initiative to aid in the raising of funds for the relief efforts, naming former President’s Bush and Clinton to lead the charge. During his speech, President Bush referred to Mr. Hewitt’s participation saying that private citizens are finding creative ways to raise money for the effort (sic) “a Virginia Beach man, who owns a tax assistance firm has pledged to donate money for every return the company prepares”. Hewitt responded by saying, “It is clear that President Bush understands and believes that the need for aid to South Asia is the responsibility of the private sector in addition to what world governments can provide. I have been donating money to fight world hunger a long time. I challenge and encourage the American people and American businesses to support relief efforts through private contributions.”

Hewitt co-founded Stop Hunger Now, which is a rapid response organization that moves quickly to give aid when natural disasters, famine and war create starvation in countries throughout the world. Most recently, Stop Hunger Now delivered ten truck loads of water and food to Haiti after the devastating effects of the hurricane season.
