Dominic Ruffalo and his two brothers, Charlie and John, opened the first Sub Station restaurant in Sumter, South Carolina, in 1975. Former owners and operators of a successful New Jersey restaurant, the Ruffalo brothers saw such great success with their new venture that they launched the first Sub Station II franchise in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1976. Thirteen more stores opened by the end of 1977. The privately held company has locations throughout South Carolina and in other states.
